Celebrating Prevention Day 2025 at the WV State Capitol with WV Prevention Solutions
On April 2, 2025, the West Virginia State Capitol was filled with energy and passion as WV Prevention Solutions and fellow Prevention Lead Organizations hosted Prevention Day at the Legislature — a powerful event that brought together community leaders, prevention professionals, youth advocates, and policymakers with a common goal: to promote healthy, drug-free communities across the Mountain State.
The day served as a showcase of the steadfast prevention work happening throughout West Virginia. From informative displays to engaging conversations, WV Prevention Solutions and its partners highlighted the vital role of prevention in strengthening communities and improving lives.
Key Highlights from the Day:
Engagement with Changemakers: Attendees had the opportunity to meet with legislators and other changemakers to share real-life stories of how prevention efforts are making a difference in local communities. These important conversations helped raise awareness and support for policies that prioritize prevention programs.
Youth Voice in Action: One of the most inspiring parts of the day came from West Virginia’s youth, who stood as advocates for their future. They reminded everyone of why prevention work is so crucial — and how youth empowering youth is key to making sustainable change among the younger generation.
Community Showcases: Prevention coalitions and community resource providers from across the state set up engaging and educational exhibits in the Capitol Rotunda, showcasing data-driven strategies, local success stories, and creative outreach programs. The displays sparked meaningful dialogue and new collaborations that will move prevention forward in the coming year.
Recognition of Prevention Champions: The power of prevention starts with those who DO prevention. As part of the prevention day activities, all Certified Prevention Specialists were recognized for their hard work and dedication to the field. This year, the late Kathy Brunty, a pioneer in the field of prevention in WV, was also honored for her commitment to prevention, leadership, and service. Her commitment to community, faith, and family represent the heart of how prevention makes a difference in West Virginia.
WV Prevention Solutions was honored to help host this event and remains dedicated to bringing people together, raising awareness, and pushing for a brighter, substance-free future for all West Virginians. It took coordination, passion, and professionalism to make the 2025 Prevention Day not only a success — but a lasting milestone in bringing prevention to the forefront of the conversation.
Thank you to everyone who helped make Prevention Day 2025 a day to remember. Together, we are building a stronger, healthier West Virginia — one conversation, one connection, and one community at a time.
