Notice of Funding Opportunity
Partner with us to provide prevention in your community!

West Virginia Prevention Solutions (WVPS), the designated prevention lead organization (PLO) by the West Virginia Bureau for Behavioral Health (BBH), is seeking to partner with community coalitions and prevention-forward agencies to receive funding solicitations for Region 4 counties: Barbour, Braxton, Doddridge, Gilmer, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker, and Upshur.
Prevention is defined by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) as creating communities where individuals, families, schools, faith-based organizations, and workplaces take action to promote emotional health. Delivered prior to the onset of a disorder, these interventions are intended to prevent or reduce the risk of developing a substance use disorder (SUD), such as underage alcohol use, prescription drug misuse, and illicit drug use. Prevention services are divided into three population categories based on the Institute of Medicine (IOM) model of care: universal, selective, and indicated. Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) prevention strategies include the following: information dissemination; education; alternatives; problem identification (ID) and referral; community-based processes; and environmental strategies.
This is a reimbursement grant to engage youth in community, regional, and state activities such as volunteering in prevention campaigns, participation in prevention activities, and participation in recognized national youth coalitions and/or other youth leadership initiatives to foster youth empowerment and leadership skills. Funding can only be utilized toward efforts that provide evidence-based strategies/activities and are implemented with fidelity.
